From the Long Island Expressway (495) to one of the island’s picturesque parkways, the most common way by far to travel around Long Island is by car. However, sometimes traveling by rail, bus or ferry is your best bet.

North America’s busiest commuter railroad is comprised of over 700 miles of track serving 124 stations on Long Island. Stretching from Penn Station in Manhattan to Montauk on Long Island’s east end the LIRR has 11 different branches and is a subsidiary of New York State's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

The Port Authority's AirTrain JFK provides a convenient light rail link between the LIRR's Jamaica hub and JFK International Airport.
